Photos from Spring Fling Criterium Series Saturday, March 1, 2014. Super cold!

 

Cold. 20 Degrees. Winds 15 MPH out of the North East. No buildings for shelter. Two team tents. That was Saturday. Our first race was the Masters 35+. The pace was conservative until the sprints; which were explosive. Alex Ardussi rode well finishing 8th. Brendan was dropped off the back.

The ladies category 4 race. Mellissa Holstead and Anita Gonzalez rode superbly. They finished 5th and 7th respectively.

The juniors. Mason Winters and Abby Lisk were out there in horrible weather. They raced like troopers. Abby was second in the 12 - 18 and first in the 9 -12. That’s right! She raced twice! Mason was first in the 9-12 year olds!

The men’s category 4/5 race was 18 laps of fun and freezing. Alex Ardussi set a fast pace at the front of the field; splitting the group. Much to his dismay Tony and Brendan helped riders return to the field (unintentionally). We need to work on our communications. Alex Ardussi, Brendan Sheehan, Tony Thompson, and Josh Mendoza all raced. .

Finallythe men’s category 5 race. Some of our racers had been out there at the Lake since 9:30 AM. By now the temperature was 19 degrees and snowing. No worries. Tony Thompson put the hammer down! He stayed with the lead group the entire race finishing a strong 6th. Josh Mendoza returning to racing one week after a tough crash hung on to finish 8th! Aarron Rogers, John Merritt, John Schmidtke and Glen Mosher also raced in the men’s category 5 race. Great job by all who raced!
