Trips for Kids

Trips for Kids is a national organization which is dedicated to providing mountain bike rides for inner city disadvantaged kids. Santa Fe Trails Bicycle Shop in conjunction with the Leavenworth Youth Achievement Center has sponsored rides on Wednesday afternoons for the Leavenworth program. We have approximately 6 - 10 children in the program. Each ride is accompanied by at least two adults every time. We provide first aid, bike lessons, limited bike and helmet sizing, guidance and supervision.

The rides are typically 3 - 5 miles in length around the Leavenworth Community. Our capstone ride is the River Trail Mountain Bike Ride in Lawrence, Kansas. This is a 9.5 mile mountain bike trail along the Kansas River. The trail is fun and safe.

Our organization provides 5 bicycles for the children to ride. We provide transport for the bikes to and from the YAC. The YAC provide transportation for the children and a snack. There are no costs for children to participate although their parents/guardians must sign a waiver.

First Trip for Kids is March 23rd at 4:30pm. Parents can sign their child up with Deb at the Youth Achievement Center. Volunteers are need. Contact the shop if you would like to volunteer.
