Meet Brendan Sheehan

Brendan owns and operates the Santa Fe Trails Bicycle and Coffee shop in Leavenworth, KS. During his tenure as a U.S. Army officer, Brendan completed his Master of Science in Administration at Central Michigan University. His Master’s thesis reflected his lifelong dream – it was a business plan for a bicycle shop. In the fall of 1996, Brendan left the army, attended the Barnett Bicycle Institute, and returned to Leavenworth to open Santa Fe Trails on New Year’s Day, 1997.

In addition to running the shop, Brendan has acted as the bike mechanic for Bike Across Kansas (BAK) six different years; attended Interbike, CABDA and Trek World; and completed several Shimano Seminars. In 2011, Brendan also completed the highly acclaimed Specialized Bicycle Components University - Body Geometry Fit Class. Ask about any book on cycling written in the last 20 years, and Brendan has probably read it!

However, knowing about bikes and bike mechanics is only part of the picture. Brendan also coaches, manages and participates on the Santa Fe Trails bicycle racing team. Among many others, Brendan has competed in the CGSC Triathlon, Shawnee Park Triathlon, Long View Lake Triathlon, Taxi Triathlon in Manhattan, KS; the Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska State Road Races; the Kansas State and National Cyclocross Championships; the Sunflower State Games Criterium; Atchison Criterium; Kansas State Time Trial; Octiginta TT; Lanterne Rouge TT; the Tour of Herman in Herman, MO; … placing and/or standing on the podium in many of these events throughout the years. And whether he is competing or not, Brendan is there coaching and cheering on his team members.

Brendan is an active member of the bicycling community, promoting dozens of races, supporting other promoters, and leading over 100 rides a year out of the Santa Fe Trails Bicycle Shop. Brendan rides well over 3000 miles a year … every year … and has for 17 years.
