Longview Cross in Lees Summit, Missouri. Francis and I raced. Roger Harrison was there to support. 10:30 AM the temperature was 28 degrees. The sun was shining. The conditions were perfect for cyclo cross. The course was cut through a field, evidently by a brush hog. The first section was extremely rutted, followed by an off camber-slick climb. Then the course smoothed ou…t and riders were treated to a mini replica of the mound of misery. A series of switchbacks followed dumping you out onto the pavement. The masters did many laps (I lost count). I raced in the 50 plus category.
Francis raced in the juniors. I walked the course with him before his race. Trying to help him, I pointed out places and things on the course. All to no avail. Temperatures went from 28 degrees to 44 degrees. As we waited for his race to start, I noticed that the ladies were taking an extremely long time completing their laps. The course had become a mud bath. Francis and the juniors only completed one lap in their half hour race. Still morale was good. It just is taking a long time to clean those bikes…
As of right now, we have no official results although I think Francis was third in the juniors.
